ONI Denim 03501-HMSK Heavy Moleskin Coverall

ONI Designed a lot of coveralls during the pandemic, and this is one of our favourites. It is cut from a premium Japanese heavy woven cotton Moleskin with the pile cut off. What’s left behind is an incredibly soft, yet thanks to the weave, durable fabric ideal for crisp days. Because of the textile’s weight, moleskin is warmer than your basic cotton twill but doesn’t need to be broken in – the work’s been done for you. It retains warmth but is also breathable, making it a suitable choice for Autumn.

This moleskin is similar to corduroy and velvet, with a high-quality yarn tightly woven to create the hardy textile. It is sheared close over the whole of one side for a suede-like feel. The rich nap of the soft-brushed fabric hints at luxury, though the tough material began as rugged working wear.

Oishi-San is well known for interpreting American workwear staples through his Japanese dystopic lens. More of a character actor than a leading man, this heavyweight coverall will be the most reliable Autumn jacket in your arsenal. It’s designed for work—with plenty of pockets and durable construction—and is understated enough to add some depth to everything from an oxford shirt to a tee. It has one inner and one outer breast pocket and two handwarmer pockets at the waist.

The legend of ONI is alive to this day. In recent years Oishi-San has devoted himself to experimenting with widely varying grammages, rough textures, different indigo dyeing techniques and novelty cuts while always maintaining a very limited production and wielding his experience in denim which now goes back more than 60 years.
