This is the first time that ONI has produced a workshirt. This beautiful piece is based on the style of work shirts first appearing in the 1910s and 1920s. It emphasises a regular cut and a button-down style.
The fabric used is called “Yokonezu”. It is an outstanding 10oz fabric that features a tinted grey weft interior that has been popular in Japan for a long time.
It features a top-notch construction with triple chain stitching along all the shirt, and chain stitching runoffs (the trail of chain stitched threads that dangle from the side seam) are a sign that the maker is leaning into that vintage appeal. Cut them or keep them—the choice is yours.
The legend of ONI is alive to this day. In recent years Oishi-San has devoted himself to experimenting with widely varying grammages, rough textures, different indigo dyeing techniques and novelty cuts while always maintaining a very limited production and wielding his experience in denim which now goes back more than 60 years.
