Calee Wellington Type Glasses Yellow/Green

These beautiful glasses are manufactured in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, which is said to be the sacred place for the production of eyeglasses and where the precision of the details is out of this world. Eyewear made in Sabae is renowned for its intricate craftsmanship and innovative approach to design. The craftspeople from Sabae are uncompromising in their work and take pride in the fact that their glasses will become part of someone’s face. The robustness for which Sabae glasses are famed is born from handcrafting techniques from such artisans.

Calee eyewear has been made in Sabae for over 10 years, always with minimal production. A few experienced artisans are working for Calee eyewear, manufacturing glasses by hand. The complex designs and delicate curves cannot be reproduced except through handcrafting techniques.

This Wellington model is inspired by 1950s eyewear from Wellington College, a century-old British institution. Still, the frame is a little wider and more accessible to wear than the vintage version. It is made of cellulose acetate, one of the highest quality and best premium materials for eyeglasses construction, for several reasons. It is highly durable, resistant to temperature changes and comfortable to wear for an extended period. The hinge connecting the temple and the rim is made with 7 hinges, the highest peak in Japan.

The lenses have a light green tint. They are perfect in overcast or partially sunny conditions. They let in a good amount of light and are therefore not ideal for very sunny conditions, but you will love to wear them all year round and in many situations, including indoors.
